(deep breath) Ok, I finally did it. I signed up for NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write the rough draft of a novel in the month of November. I’ve thought about doing it before, but haven’t taken the plunge until now. Of course I know plenty of people who have signed up and still not written a novel, but I’m ready (I think) to give it a try and the website has some good tools to help push me along. So between the website, and some pushy (in a good way) friends, I hope to have my first draft done by the end of November.
I’ve always liked writing, I’ve written several picture books and even had quite a few magazine articles published. However, pretty much all my writing falls into the 800 words or less category, so a novel is pretty intimidating. I love writing for children so even before I knew what my novel would be about, I knew it would be for kids. I actually signed up without any idea of what I was going to write about. I’ve had a little time to think about it since signing up, and run some ideas past my 8-year-old, and I have come up with a couple thoughts. First I think my book will have at least one dragon in it, because dragons are cool. Second I’m pretty sure there will also be some dragon poop, because as my 4-year-old likes to tell me, “Poop is funny!” I’ve read a lot of kids books and the best ones are both exciting and funny so my goal is to have a rough draft of an exciting and funny children’s novel by the end of November. Wish me luck!!

I want to read it when you’re done!:-)
Depending on how it goes, I may need a good editor
